December 23rd 2022. Chicago, Illinois. Allstate Arena. SmackDown. Tegan Nox hoped she could rebound from last week's loss by winning the Gauntlet Match to determine the number one contender for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Her luck of the draw wasn't great coming in at number three. But if anyone has proven she can overcome a climb, it's The Absolute Unit. The opponent standing across the ring from her was Xia Li who attacked her last week during the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match.

Xia Li did what she did without any allegiances, fed up with newcomers getting championship opportunities while her SmackDown run hasn't been as lucky. I guess Xia forgot Nox is hardly a newcomer, having previously been in WWE for close to five years. Most would agree Nox had a tag team title match in the bag she earned yet never got during her previous time on SmackDown.

Nox wasted no time delivering a Tegan bell rock to the charging Xia, grasping her arm and hitting her with a fury of strikes and uppercut. Xia got whipped to the ropes, caught on return with an uppercut to the back. Tegan switched to high impact offense with a sitout gourdbuster and corner cannonball. Nox ascended to the top rope and took flight, hitting Xia with a crossbody and cover for two.

Tegan followed Xia to the apron where Li pushed her hard against the ring post. A kick knocked Nox hard again to the post. The jumping knee strike sent her back into the ring the hard way. Nox slowly made her way to her feet, however Xia swiftly cut her back down to the canvas with a cyclone kick to the back. Xia sat on top Nox like a lioness over her prey to score the pin.

Nox entered third and was eliminated by Xia Li (1:20). The match was eventually won by Raquel Rodriguez.
