October 23rd 2019. NXT General Manager William Regal announced that Dakota Kai & Tegan Nox would face Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir. It wasn't just a grudge match, the winners would earn themselves a title match against WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Asuka & Kairi Sane on the October 30th 2019 episode. This was what Kai and Nox had dreamed of ever since becoming best friends and forming Team Fly-Kicks. Not only was a title shot at stake, this would be the first time they had an opportunity to team up in a televised match.

Shafir and Duke hoped to bring more gold to the Four Horsewoman's dominion. Shayna Baszler was eager to extinguish the fire of two likely contenders for the NXT Women's Championship via her lackeys. Kai and Nox would enter the ring to the love and adoration of the NXT faithful. Their repaired knees would share an emotional moment.

Duke would canvas an unsuspecting Kai with a big boot as the opening bell rang. Shafir and her would work Kai over close to their corner. After a few attempts were prevented, Dakota was finally able to tag Tegan into the match. Nox unloaded offense including chokeslams to both Horsewomen. Dakota reentered the fray taking Shafir out of play with a pump kick, opening the window for Nox to strike Duke down with a headbutt and The Shiniest Wizard. Nox covered Duke and scored the pinfall victory for Team Fly-Kicks.

It was an emotional moment for both Dakota and Tegan but their embrace was interrupted by Asuka and Kairi who appeared on the Titantron to deliver a cryptic warning: Next week you have no chance. The former NXT Women's Champions were coming home but unfamiliar. The dominant pairing had walked a darker path in the last couple months. The Kairi whom both Tegan and Dakota had earned the respect of in their respective pasts was no more. But for now, they were no longer interrupted and could have their embrace.

Later that evening in a WWE Digital Exclusive, Jon Quasto asked Dakota and Tegan about their championship opportunity. Dakota said typically Charlie that it felt insane. She pointed out that this would be the first time ever the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles were defended on their homebrand NXT. They affirmed they were beyond ready for this, having being through rehabilitation together and returning together. They had in fact been preparing for such a chance since the Women's Tag Team Titles were introduced earlier that year.

Jon finished the interview asking if they were concerned about the green mist Asuka had recently reintroduced coming into play. They clearly were but played it down. Dakota signaled she sort of was with her fingers while Nox quipped she was worried it might stain her hair. Tegan asked if Asuka and Kairi were ready for The Girl With The Shiniest Wizard and The Captain of Team Kick because Dakota and her didn't think so.
